When I built my website, I wanted its name and logo to say something more than my name or my profession. I wanted them to stand for how I see life and its complexities. That is how I arrived at “amir42.com” and the asterisk (*) as the heart of the site’s identity. The number 42 and the asterisk both represent ideas I believe in: curiosity, exploration and the conviction that the meaning of life is different for everyone.

What makes the idea so captivating is not that 42 is the answer, but that nobody knows what the question is. That resonates deeply with me, because life is full of questions and often there is no single definitive answer.
For me, 42 stands for the endless search for meaning. We may all be looking for answers, but the meaning of life is subjective and varies from person to person; no single answer fits everyone’s journey. By putting 42 in my domain name, I embrace the idea that life is about finding your own answers, and that the questions we ask matter as much as the answers we find.
The asterisk: infinite possibilities
The asterisk in my logo stands for infinite possibilities. In ASCII, the character with code 42 is the asterisk (*), as an ASCII character table (opens in a new tab) shows. In programming and in search queries, the asterisk often serves as a wildcard: a placeholder that can stand for anything. In life, it reminds me that there are limitless options, paths and interpretations to explore and that, as in a search, many outcomes are possible.
By building the asterisk into my logo, I wanted to express the belief that life is not a fixed set of circumstances but a vast range of possibilities waiting to be explored. Whether in personal growth, learning or a career, the asterisk stands for openness to different perspectives and for the way life’s meaning keeps evolving.
